Head, Web and Application Development Services, UNLV University Libraries

The University of Nevada‑Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the Head of Web and Application Development Services in the Library Technologies Division. This full‑time, Grade C administrative faculty position reports to the Director, Library Technologies and leads the department that designs, develops, deploys, and supports the Libraries’ websites and web applications, including open‑source platforms such as Islandora, Drupal, and custom solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of five full‑time administrative faculty, setting goals, conducting evaluations, and supporting professional development.
  • Identify, prioritize, and manage projects through all phases, including scope definition, stakeholder analysis, resource planning, project planning, stakeholder communication, and delivery.
  • Act as a liaison between technical staff and non‑technical stakeholders, providing training and communicating web capabilities and workflows.
  • Collaborate with department and library technical staff to maintain the web infrastructure, evaluate new software versions, modules, and workflows.
  • Manage external vendor relationships that support the Libraries’ web environment.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, coding standards, guidelines, and workflows, ensuring compliance with best practices.
  • Oversee application tools used to track project progress and troubleshoot issues.
  • Monitor developments in open‑source communities (e.g., Drupal, Islandora, Archives Space) and engage with communities to benefit local operations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and at least five years of relevant experience, including three years of supervising technical staff.
  • Proficiency in front‑end web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience with back‑end programming/scripting languages (e.g., PHP, Python).
  • Knowledge of APIs and data formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Experience with professional web content management systems.
  • Understanding of software development practices, source code management, and version control.
  • Familiarity with user‑centered design and digital accessibility standards.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with complex projects and diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in staff performance management, setting standards, evaluating, and coordinating work.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation (processes, standards, procedures, workflows).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Drupal: page design, theming, plugin development, maintenance, and administration.
  • Experience with Islandora and other open‑source digital asset management systems.
  • Experience using Docker for automated deployment and container management.
  • Experience with Git Lab or similar version control repositories.
  • Experience with Google enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of SEO and analytics tools, preferably Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Experience with AI tools for code production, review, or debugging.
  • Evidence of continued professional learning (certifications, training).
