Database Administrator, Data Engineer
The primary objective of the Database Administrator (Sr DBA) is to develop and maintain the corporate databases ensuring data integrity, security, retention, and recoverability of the data. In this role, the Postgre
SQL DBA will design, build, test, and deploy quality database solutions that are consistent with project objectives, technology architecture standards and departmental best practices. The DBA will design and implement database strategies, administer enterprise-wide data architecture, implement complex data structures, and provide daily management of Postgres databases. The DBA will create and administer all database objects from design to deployment utilizing subject matter expertise to design or re-use, configure, and implement database solutions/processes that maximize system availability, efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, recoverability, and supportability.
responsibilities include:
- All aspects of database administration including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migration, capacity planning, performance tuning, backup and recovery.
- Responsible for evaluating patch releases and patching requests from development, and communicating constraints, issues, and timelines for deployment.
- Change management including maintenance of multiple development, test, QA, and production environments. Responsible for deploying approved changes to production.
- 24x7 rotational on-call support, including driving Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Preventative action follow-though, and participation in weekly operations reviews.
- Proactive database monitoring and issue resolution through custom built scripts as well as using PgAdmin/Enterprise manager tools.
- Database optimization including performance tuning, query optimization and supportability.
- Actively participate and contribute to projects involving enterprise systems enhancements.
- Implementation and ongoing support of high availability architecture not limited to Active/Active and Active/Passive Clusters
- Work with development project teams to design and implement database solutions to meet business requirements.
- Regular proactive capacity planning and tending reviews of all databases. Producing weekly, monthly management reports.
- Develop and implement Database security policies and procedures, in line with corporate objectives.
- Must have 8+ years DBA working experience with Postgre
SQL 9.6+ version and good understanding of Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server. - Must be knowledgeable and experienced in managing Postgre
SQL on multiple operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Linux (RHEL) and Kubernetes in Open Shift platform - Experienced in setting up Postgre
SQL clusters and supporting databases cluster in on-prem and hybrid cloud environment, and specifically in AWS RDS instance. - Strong skills in UNIX/Linux Shell Scripting
- Experience in implementing Postgres STIG implementation, testing, and other vulnerability remediation.
- Working Knowledge of connection poolers (pgPool and pg Bouncer).
- Install, monitor and maintain Postgre
SQL software, implement monitoring and alerting. - Experience in building high-scalable clusters, failover and hot standby solutions based on Maximum available architecture
- Experience in architecting, configuring, setting up Enterprise Fail over manager or similar technology for High availability solution.
- Experience in leading efforts related to system and SQL performance tuning and assisting business process integration with various data sources.
- Ability to work well with development and infrastructure teams in doing database design, changes and enhancement to new and existing applications
- Proven ability to provide High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
- Maintain operational documentation (e.g., procedures, task lists, architecture blueprints)
- Strong Troubleshooting Skills
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude while working with high demands and short deadlines that leads to working after hours.

DB, Couchbase, Elasticsearch, or HBase - Experience in data modeling tools such as Oracle Data Modeler, Erwin, Toad, Visio, etc.
- Has strong Python programming skill and be able to develop dba applications for system automation and integration.
- Availability to work various shifts, extended hours and to provide on-call support as required.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- Lifting, bending and transporting of heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
- Visual acuity to read technical documents, computer screens and to accurately identify small parts and components.
