This position is located in Indian Springs, NV.
Summary:
The Sheet Metal Worker plans, lays-out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal products and equipment. Sets-up and operates sheet metal working machines and utilizes hand and power tools to cut, bend, form, join, and straighten sheet metal. Utilizes various techniques and knowledge of working characteristics of metallic materials to repair and fabricate sheet metal products. The Sheet Metal Worker maintains in good repair the sheet metal equipment and fixtures in the Fabrication Shop.
The Sheet Metal Worker must have expert knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the trade.
Essential Functions:
* Ability to plan, lay-out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair a wide variety of sheet metal products.
* Set-up and operate all available types of sheet metal working machines. Use a variety of hand tools and power tools in cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting and assembling sheet metal.
* Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, product specifications, and work instructions.
* Define sequence methods of fabricating and assembling sheet metal products. Use shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop patterns/templates to mark materials using scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers.
* Set-up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, and presses.
* Fasten seams and joints together with bolts, screws, rivets, etc. Drill and punch holes for bolts, screws, and rivets.
* Trim, file, grind, deburr, and smooth surfaces/joints using available hand and power tools.
* Select proper gauges and types of sheet metal and appropriate fasteners according to project specifications. Understand bend tolerances, minimum bend radii, and bend allowances for various metals.
* Inspect assemblies for conformance to specifications.
* Perform housekeeping of the work area and equipment in accordance with specified standards.
* Assist machinist and welder functions in the Fabrication Shop.
* Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
* High school graduate or equivalent.
* Five years sheet metal experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training.
* Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
* Ability to maintain active CPR and First Aid certification.
* Ability to operate a forklift.
* Valid Nevada Driver's License. Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands:
* Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
* Ability to work at elevated heights of not more than 60 feet.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other team members and those contacted in the performance of required duties.
* Ability to organize tasks and work independently.
* Ability to travel as required by the company.
* Ability to successfully apply technical skills and knowledge to practical situations and problem solving in the performance of everyday tasks.
* Must possess strong computer and organizational skills in order to accurately input and track work performed.
* Ability to read and understand English and communicate verbally and in writing.
* Ability to establish, update, and maintain accurate documentation.
