The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides direct patient care, exams, orders and interprets tests, prescribes interventions and medications, and leads clinical and operational aspects within the clinic. The NP works as part of inter-professional teams and may participate in research, teaching, and professional leadership.

• Conducts in-depth interviews with patients and/or family, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs initial and periodic physical examinations, identifies and treats diseases, and manages treatment of hospitalized patients.
• Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.
• Develops and implements long and short-range treatment plans.
• Performs procedures such as obtaining specimens, injections, immunizations, lumbar punctures, skin biopsies, suturing, wound care, and management of trauma- or infection-related conditions.
• Writes medication orders subject to physician review and counter-signature.
• Initiates consultations and coordinates scheduling for special tests.
• Maintains updated patient records, adjusts orders as appropriate, and notifies the physician of changes in condition.
• Instructs and counsels patients and families on preventive care, medical problems, psychological issues, and prescribed treatments.
• Acts as liaison with governmental agencies, supports medical research projects, and may obtain IRB approval for treatment protocols.
• Researches community resources for referrals and directs patients to appropriate resources based on medical needs.
• Ensures compliance with University/department policies, quality assurance, safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements.
• Participates in in-service education and professional associations; assists with orientation and training of new employees.

• Master’s degree from an accredited school of Nursing (MSN).
• 5 years of combined education/experience as a substitute for minimum experience in clinical nursing.
• Excellent communication skills in English (read, write, speak).
• Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to understand and perform duties.

• Registered Nurse (CA Board of Registered Nursing)
• Nurse Practitioner (CA Board of Registered Nursing)
• Nurse Practitioner Furnisher (CA DCA) Current license to furnish medications in California
• DEA Certificate for Schedule II-V substances
• NP Board Certification (ABSNC or NCCA) for specialty area
• ACNP or AGACNP/ACNP certification if required for hospital/acute care settings (grandfathered if hired before 12/2015)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider (as required by setting)
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) or equivalent; obtain within 30 days if required
• For Las Vegas area: NP certifications and licensure as specified, including Nevada requirements if applicable

Hourly rate range: $64.00 - $105.60. USC considers factors such as responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions when making offers.
