The Horticulture Gardener is responsible for the complete and proper maintenance of all resort grounds, ensuring a lush, elegant, and welcoming environment that reflects the property’s luxury standards. This includes care for turf, shrubs, palms, trees, and seasonal flowers, as well as assisting with water feature upkeep. The gardener must be skilled in minor irrigation repairs and proficient in operating all landscaping power equipment, including gas‑powered mowers, hedgers, blowers, and company vehicles.
This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and a commitment to creating an exceptional guest experience through beautifully maintained outdoor spaces. The gardener will adhere to all Company, Safety and Department policies and procedures, foster teamwork, and provide excellent guest service, anticipating guest needs to exceed expectations and build brand loyalty by living the Marriott Values.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED Preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience operating landscape power tools and performing horticultural tasks.
- Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with managers and guests.
- Strong knowledge of plant care, soil health, irrigation systems, and seasonal maintenance.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 80 lbs.
- Customer service mindset with a commitment to maintaining a luxury aesthetic.
- Preferred:
- Experience in luxury hospitality or high‑end residential landscaping.
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices and water conservation techniques.
- Ability to anticipate guest needs and maintain discretion while working in guest‑facing areas.
- Maintain all exterior grounds, gardens, and pathways to ensure a pristine and inviting appearance.
- Remove trash, debris, and fallen foliage promptly to uphold resort standards.
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with upkeep of water features and ornamental installations.
- Monitor plant health and report any issues such as pests or disease.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures as instructed during onboarding and ongoing training.
- Support seasonal planting, pruning, fertilization, and irrigation adjustments.
- Collaborate with the landscaping team to execute design plans and special event setups.
