Position: Biologist 1

salary

approximate annual salary – $52,200.00 to $76,608.72 (pay grade: 30). The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the employee/employer retirement compensation schedule.

the position

biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.

incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

this position will assist area biologists with big game and upland game surveys including helicopter surveys, ground surveys, fixed‑wing surveys and surveys from atv's and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent will be the primary regional flight crew member and will generally follow the helicopter for all regional flights. The incumbent will coordinate with game division staff, private landowners, and contractors to conduct private land elk use monitoring, fencing projects, damage assessments/claims, and documenting deer and antelope use of private land.

The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating with game division and field staff to conduct field and data management work for monitoring, collecting, and managing big game radio and satellite collars. The position will aid in any upland game and big game trap, transplant, and/or collaring efforts throughout the year. This position is being recruited at the biologist 1 and 2 levels.

in order to be qualified

education and experience (minimum qualifications): bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field; or graduation from high school and two years of technical wildlife management or fisheries experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience with data collection, analysis, interpretation, and project proposal development for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects.

work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.

working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.

specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.

special requirements

statewide travel and outdoor work is required.

a valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

the examination
