The Pre-Trial Services unit operates 24/7. Work schedules may change, and employees may be required to work any shift or day.
Selection ProcessFinal selection includes list placement and may involve a hiring interview. Employment offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test, background check, education and experience verification, and demonstration of physical ability if required. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is the full journey-level class within the Pre-Trial Services Officer series. Employees work with minimal instruction on new or unusual situations and are familiar with operating procedures and policies.
Supervision ReceivedReceives general supervision from the Pre-Trial Services Supervisor or higher management.
Essential FunctionsTwo years of responsible experience in criminal justice, counseling, social work, substance abuse counseling, psychology, or a related field.
TrainingBachelor's degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, social sciences, or related field. Equivalent education and experience may be substituted, with 1.5 years of relevant experience equating to one year of education.
License or CertificateMust obtain NCIC/NCJIS certification within 6 months of appointment and maintain proficiency.
Special RequirementsThe unit operates 24/7; work schedules may vary, including any shift or day.
Knowledge ofCriminal justice principles, interviewing techniques, substance abuse signs, human behavior, community resources, record keeping, report writing, laws and regulations.
Skills inJudgment, understanding of criminal justice system, policy enforcement, mental health and substance abuse recognition, effective communication, decision-making, and relationship building.
