PositionSummary
The Flagger is responsible for directing traffic flow around construction sites, road maintenance areas, and other work zones. This role involves setting up and taking down traffic control signs, cones, and barricades to ensure the safety of workers and the public, using hand signals and other devices to guide motorists safely through or around the work area. The position requires excellent attention to detail, the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and the capability to stand for extended periods.
EssentialFunctions
- Set up traffic control devices around work areas to divert traffic.
- Effectively manage traffic flow with stop/slow paddles.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with team members using two‑way radios.
- Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours a day.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items over 50 pounds.
- Drive company vehicles to transport equipment to and from job sites.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
- Regularly exposed to outdoor weather, moving equipment, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Noise level usually moderate to loud.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Pass a background check and motor‑vehicle records check.
- Pass a drug test and meet federal DOT requirements.
- Wear proper safety equipment (boots with safety toe, hard hat, safety glasses, vest).
- Operate a 2‑way radio.
- Work in various weather conditions and traffic settings.
- Communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams while delivering strong customer service.
- Work well in a team environment.
- Maintain excellent attendance, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic.
- Complete ATSSA Flagger training and company Defensive Driver training.
- Travel statewide, with occasional overnight stays, and work nights and weekends as required.
- Available for a rotating on‑call schedule.
