Children’s Medical Services (CMS) ProgramThe Children’s Medical Services program provides services for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disabling conditions in children. It is a statewide program within the Department of Health, Public Health Division. CMS serves children from birth to 21 with chronic illnesses or medical conditions that require surgical or medical treatment.
Why does the job exist?This position will provide direct medical social work services and support and supervision for CMS social workers assisting clients in coordinating health, medical and other community resources and provide direct social work services to a multi‑ethnic population. Provide a safety net and assurance services for children and youth with special healthcare needs. Services and concerns are addressed on both an individual/family level and on a systems level.
Howdoes it get done?
The Children's Medical Services Social Worker Supervisor maintains a caseload to provide care coordination/medical social work to clients in a six‑county area. The position leads the program’s care coordination, clinic, and outreach efforts in San Miguel, Mora, Guadalupe, Colfax, Union and Harding counties. The supervisor teaches, models, and oversees the work of two CMS social workers and a CMS clerk. The supervisor provides quality assurance for billing, maximizing billing, and ongoing care coordination, thereby producing revenue to support the program.
Travel throughout the northeast region is occasionally required.
CMS serves the general public and children and youth with special healthcare needs throughout New Mexico.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate has a Master’s degree in social work and is licensed by the New Mexico Board of Social Work. The candidate will have 5 years or more experience as a supervisor, be fluent in English and Spanish, have experience conducting interviews for intakes and assessments, be able to independently formulate interventions and service plans, have experience supervising social workers, and uphold the ethical principles and standards of the social work profession.
MinimumQualification
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (in accordance with NMAC 61‑31‑9) and two (2) years of experience in a social work setting such as social service agencies, healthcare, medical, educational settings, mental health, home health, hospice, developmental disabilities, and other relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
EmploymentRequirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive defensive driving course certification as a condition of continued employment.
- All applicants must be licensed in accordance with the Social Work Practice Act and NMAC. Must include license or certificate number in the “License” section of the application form.
Work is performed in office settings, schools, medical offices, or (on occasion) client homes. Work is performed under general supervision of NE Region CMS Program Manager in SF County Health Office. Locations could be region‑wide, with some travel required to local/area in NE Region:
San Miguel, Mora, Colfax, Union, Harding and Guadalupe counties. Clinic setting, constant public contact, computer usage, filing, involving stooping and reaching, may be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
