Senior Project Engineer Overview

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for producing engineering drawings, managing project execution, and providing technical expertise for public- and private-sector precast concrete projects. This role oversees all engineering and specification requirements, ensures project delivery within scope, budget, and schedule, and maintains professional communication with clients, agencies, vendors, and internal teams. The Senior Project Engineer collaborates closely with the Chief Engineer, President, Project Engineers, and Drafters, and may occasionally visit project sites to oversee product installation.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Health & Safety: Enforce compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Project Management: Lead multiple precast concrete projects from award through closeout, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Project Planning & Coordination: Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets; coordinate resources and materials; conduct regular project meetings to track progress and resolve issues.
  • Engineering Design: Provide technical expertise in the design and structural analysis of precast concrete elements and facility improvement projects (e.g., ancillary structures, casting beds, manufacturing facilities).
  • Client & Agency Interaction: Act as the primary contact for clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and agencies, addressing inquiries and managing expectations.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and supervise project engineers, drafters, and support staff to promote collaboration and high performance.
  • Risk Management: Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.
  • Quality Control: Maintain rigorous quality control processes to ensure compliance with industry and project specifications; assist in developing QC procedures and programs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to improve project workflow efficiency and support innovation across the organization.
  • Research & Development: Plan and manage R&D projects, including tracking material, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence; provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Estimating Support: Assist estimating staff by reviewing and analyzing cost and quantity estimates.
  • Contract Compliance: Ensure all project scope and contractual obligations are fulfilled in accordance with client agreements.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • 5+ years of precast concrete design, engineering, and project management experience.
  • Strong proficiency in structural analysis/design software (e.g., RISA-3D, ETABS, SAP
    2000).
  • Advanced skills in drafting software and Bluebeam; BIM experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and mentoring abilities.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex precast projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Solid understanding of construction methodologies, building codes, and industry/agency standards related to precast manufacturing and installation.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and presentation skills.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
