What to Expect
The Tesla Megafactory team in Lathrop is looking for an experienced Technical Training Instructor that will have extensive hands‑on maintenance and/or engineering experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with expertise in a wide variety of technical subjects and experience in Instructional Design, Applied AI, Education, Electrical, Computer, Software, Systems, or Robotics Engineering. They will also have a strong desire to help build and maintain a world class training program in a dynamic industry‑defining organization.
This subject matter expert will have a passion for teaching others and achieving excellence through instruction and mentoring programs.
- Develop high‑quality, engaging technical content and test‑bench demonstrations/instructions on a wide variety of applications (basic and advanced) in concert with factory SMEs.
- Design, build, and maintain high‑fidelity hands‑on lab equipment to supplement instructor‑led training. Must be able to incorporate diagrams (pneumatic, electrical, mechanical), explanatory videos, and interactive hands‑on exercises.
- Effectively and enthusiastically deliver equipment‑specific training to Maintenance Technicians and Engineers in classroom and field settings using a variety of presentation formats including Instructor‑Led, facilitative group learning, active hands‑on learning, and functional assessments. Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback surveys, and performance metrics. Recommend improvements to enhance knowledge retention and on‑the‑job application.
- Provide comprehensive schedule management and tracking of learners completed and required training in Tesla specific Learning Management software system. Maintain training records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
- Mentor training coordinators and support cross‑functional teams across implementing training initiatives.
- Maintain training equipment, mechanical systems, and simulation tools, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
- Spearhead collaboration between all manufacturing teams in Energy to align technical training initiatives, while leading the technical training department at MFCA, including program development and standardization of best practices across manufacturing sites.
- Two years of practical experience in industrial technical maintenance/engineering applications. B.S. in Engineering or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
- Experience programming Fanuc robots, commissioning is a plus. Experience programming Siemens/Allen Bradley PLC and working knowledge in high voltage electrical cabinets (design/construction preferred).
- Proven ability to develop and deliver high‑impact technical training programs with minimal resources, adapting creatively to budget constraints to achieve training objectives without relying on consistent funding.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of manufacturing robotics equipment and/or processes.
- Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within the Training, Maintenance, and Engineering organizations.
- Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within various parts of the Manufacturing organization. Strong interpersonal and technical writing skills in English. Strong analytical problem‑solving skills. Technology skills: ability to integrate computer applications into teaching; coding experience is a strong plus. Strong computer experience, expertise in video, audio, and image editing tools. Strong ability to work in cross‑functional groups from diverse technical and experienced backgrounds.
Perform other duties as assigned to support learning. - Knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies, including TPM and CMMS. Prior experience as a trainer or instructor, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
