Job Summary:

Produces radiographs of various anatomical parts for diagnostic purposes as directed by the Orthopedic Physician.

Essential Job Functions

• Verifies pertinent data about the patient and procedure, including patient identification and physician order; reviews the order to determine the optimal imaging procedure for suspected pathology and pregnancy status when appropriate.
• Provides information to the patient about the procedure, confirms consent, and explains instructions at an understandable level.
• Analyzes information to determine optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis; assesses contraindications and selects shielding and immobilization devices.
• Obtains optimum images during exam, including setting radiographic equipment, positioning patients per physician direction, and developing films for physician review; maintains storage of films.
• Documents accurate information about patient and exam, including proper film marking with identifiers and laterality markers per protocol.
• Maintains equipment and workstation in optimum condition; performs daily QC on radiographic equipment and ensures adequate patient care and supplies.
• Performs other duties of a medical assistant and/or medical secretary as needed to support Orthopedic practice in the physician office setting, including check-in/out, patient rooming, scheduling, authorizations, and related tasks.
• May assist in surgical scheduling as needed and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a JRCERT-accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
• Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years).
• Strong leadership, organizational, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment; ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical Terminology
• One-year medical-surgical experience

License, Certification & Clearances

• Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved by the American Heart Association (CPR and AED).
• Act 33 with renewal;
  Act 34 with renewal;
  Act 73 FBI Clearance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
• Travel locally between Excela Health locations may be required.

Work Environment

Effective March 2020 or during pandemic: goggles, face shield and mask are required per CDC guidelines. When lift requirement exceeds 50#, lift assistance and/or transfer device is required.
