Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) maintains the delivery of quality care by ensuring the nursing care plan is followed. The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing assessments on all patients within 8 hours of admission, forming the basis of an individualized plan of care.

• Identify teaching needs and goals in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.

• Provide patient information and status in a timely manner for initial and weekly re-evaluation team conferences.

• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in medical records.

• Participate in the patient rehabilitation program, utilizing the nursing process effectively.

• Initiate discharge planning as of the day of admission and begin patient education in anticipation of discharge.

• Ensure safe communication regarding changes in patient status, supporting continuity of care.

• Provide direction and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel while prioritizing responsibilities.

• Maintain a safe environment in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

• Contribute positively to unit functioning through team building and effective communication.

• Assume charge responsibilities following orientation as requested.

• Engage in professional development through continuing education and self-study.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• BLS Certification required prior to first shift.

• ACLS certification required prior to first shift (specific facility only).

• Minimum two (2) years of bedside clinical experience is highly desired.
