Carpenter Technology’s Latrobe Specialty Metals operations, based in Latrobe, PA, was acquired by Carpenter Technology in 2012 and manufactures high-performance specialty alloys serving aerospace, energy and other demanding markets.

• Recommends improvements in process and product quality to increase First Time Through (FTT).
• Provides support in the establishment of Critical to Quality measures (CTQ), Key Process Characteristics (KPC), Key Control Characteristics (KCC), control plans and FMEA.
• Increase customer satisfaction by reducing claims, remakes, scrap and deviations from standard work.
• Identify and recommend improvements in critical work center Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Detect and solve standard quality issues to prevent recurrence using appropriate quality strategies, tools, and techniques with assistance of higher-level Quality Specialists.
• Stabilize processes and implement statistical process controls (SPC) to establish and maintain process capability using statistical methods.
• Apply inspection, measurement and sampling methods and participate in method improvements (MSA).
• Participate as an active team member in developing robust processes as part of New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Maintain policies and procedures related to AS9100, Nadcap, ISO
  9001, and other related standards company-wide.
• Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
• Knowledge of ISO
  9001, ISO
  17025, AS9100 and/or Nadcap standards, with preference for aerospace standards.
• Knowledge of quality systems management and auditing principles.
• Familiarity with metrology techniques.

• High School Diploma required; four-year college degree preferred.
• Two to four years of relevant experience.

• Ability to participate in or facilitate cross-functional teams to resolve white space issues.
• Problem solving skills including check sheet, Pareto diagram, cause-and-effect diagram, graphs, control charts, histogram and scatter diagram.
• Ability to apply continuous improvement methods, such as Practical Problem Solving (PPS), Six Sigma, Lean principles and Error Proofing as team participant or facilitator.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
• Ability to perform independent work on straightforward assignments with coaching by higher level engineer, supervisor or manager on more complex assignments.
• Ability to work in a production environment and operate a computer workstation.
• Verbal and written communication skills; design skills.
• Basic project management skills.
