Description:
Detects and prevents crime, enforces all Saint Vincent rules and regulations, enforces all Pennsylvania laws, preserves the peace and protects life and property within the officer's span of control.
- Patrol Saint Vincent Archabbey College and Seminary grounds by vehicle, bicycle and on foot to prevent and detect violations, vandalism, fires, disorderly conduct, theft, and more; report all violations and incidents to appropriate authorities.
- Enforce Pennsylvania laws as permitted by Saint Vincent policy.
- Report safety, medical emergencies, accidents, hazardous conditions, and unusual situations; provide student and employee security escorts as requested.
- Provide first aid until a competent medical authority arrives (CPR and AED certification maintained).
- Respond to fire alarms and assist the fire department; determine shelter needs for evacuees; respond to burglar alarms; arm/disarm alarm systems; assist in testing and drills; respond to temperature, water level, and boiler low pressure alarms.
- Carry and use security devices safely when necessary.
- Investigate complaints and traffic accidents; conduct follow-up investigations; collect and preserve evidence for disciplinary or investigative purposes; operate cameras; prepare diagrams; interview witnesses, victims and suspects; obtain statements; protect crime scenes.
- Prepare for and present testimony at student disciplinary proceedings and District Court.
- Lock and unlock buildings and facilities as required.
- Monitor traffic for violations; enforce parking and issue citations as needed; use immobilization devices when appropriate.
- Monitor and operate closed-circuit television systems; review recordings for evidence; retain incident copies for future use.
- Direct traffic for special events and as needed.
- Attend all mandatory training and meetings; work overtime for special events or emergencies as required.
- Prepare required paperwork; operate computer equipment and programs (MS Office, ARMS, Galaxy, email); maintain knowledge of relevant policies and statutes.
- Comply with all written and verbal instructions; maintain knowledge of Pennsylvania statutes relevant to duties.
- Use Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) and maintain related certification; conduct field sobriety tests as needed.
- Maintain certification for pepper spray and ASP baton; comply with department policy on use of force; employ handcuffs and restraints as needed.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Pennsylvania Act 235, Lethal Weapons Training or equivalent.
- Experience: At least one year in security or law enforcement. Public interaction experience is desirable. Ability to pass medical, psychological screening and background investigation. Must be 21 or older. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to stay calm under pressure. First aid knowledge. Proficiency in Microsoft applications and 20 WPM typing. CPR, AED, First Aid, ASP Baton, Pepper Spray certifications are highly desirable.
Valid PA driver's license.
- Promote Crime Prevention programs and conduct Crime Prevention Surveys.
- Assist visitors and be customer-oriented.
- Conduct nightly checks of physical plant and report outages.
- Conduct other investigations as requested.
- Overtime work for events; maintain vehicles and equipment; assess intoxication levels and take appropriate action.
- Be available for unplanned shifts as needed; perform other duties as assigned.
- Care for safety under challenging conditions (e.g., weather, disturbances); may be exposed to blood borne pathogens/hazards.
- Be prepared to work all shifts and holidays; lift heavy objects as needed.
