MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required.
- Successful completion of Delaware Department of Education's Food Service Unit Course series, or willingness to complete series within two years of employment. Failure to complete will result in termination.
- Manages and maintains professional development requirements/continuing education units (CEUs) per USDA federal regulations.
- Prior food service experience is preferred, however on-the-job and classroom training will be available.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in English (read, write, speak) with students, families, staff, administration and community members.
- Ability to read and effectively execute recipes.
- Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, current USDA meal patterns for school nutrition programs.
- Ability to work in an environment of extreme cold, hot and humid temperatures for sustained periods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent work history, including evidence of punctuality, good attendance and satisfactory evaluations.
- Excellent health including full range of motion, manual dexterity, ability to stand for at least four (4) hours at a time. Ability to perform the following actions:
Bending, squatting, climbing, carrying, moving objects and lifting a minimum of at least 50 lbs. Health certificate is required. - Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation.
- Applicants must complete a written skills test as part of the interview process.
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check required.
- Satisfactory Child Protection Registry Check required.
- Satisfactory Mantoux Tuberculin Test required.
- Participation in Direct Deposit of Pay required.
Shall perform skilled work in the preparation of all menu items according to a pre-planned menu, using selected standardized recipes; could be responsible for processing specialized diets.
Shall schedule preparation time so that menu items are ready promptly at serving times and batched cooked in order to ensure quality and freshness. Products are to be taste-tested for quality before serving.
Shall prepare daily menu items in appropriate quantities, assuring adequate portions and avoiding under or over production. Responsible for reading recipes and converting measurements.
Shall inform Manager/Assistant Manager of supplies that are needed well in advance. Shall have the ability to maintain daily written production records and all temperature records.
Shall implement proper HACCP procedures when receiving, preparing, cooking, cooling and storing of all food in accordance with federal, state and district procedures.
Shall assist with the receiving and checking-in of food and/or supply orders while following HACCP procedures.
Shall be responsible for proper use, operation and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment including but not limited to:
Steamers, ranges, ovens, slicers, mixers, food processors, dish machine, ice machine and all other kitchen equipment as required.
Shall have the ability to operate the computerized point of sale system with accuracy.
Shall assist in the dishroom, even when not assigned, to avoid a backup of items to be washed.
Shall keep production work areas, storage areas, student dining areas and equipment clean at all times.
Shall assist the School Nutrition Manager and/or Assistant Manager in maintaining the perpetual food inventory and will assist with the monthly physical inventory of all items utilized in daily work.
Shall participate in the cross training of all duties which include, but are not limited to:
Server, cashier, dishroom attendant, Cook's assistant and/or runner.
Shall observe and assist with any duty that will expedite the meal service without regard to classification which includes, but is not limited to:
Preparation, cooking, serving and cleanup.
Adheres to approved standard of personal hygiene and grooming, including appearance, cleanliness and following appropriate dress code.
Shall display to students, faculty, staff and co-workers a positive attitude of accommodation and cooperation.
Shall assume the responsibilities for full-time for School Nutrition Technicians as needed and requested.
Shall adhere to applicable federal regulations, Board policies and departmental procedures.
Shall perform other related duties as needed or as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Three and a half (3.5) hours per day, exclusive of lunch.
Approximately 170-180 days per year.
Salary based on state and local salary schedules and experience.
