Overview:

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing financial operations specific to construction projects, ensuring accurate job costing, compliance, and timely reporting. This role supports project managers and leadership by providing financial insights that drive operational efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage full-cycle construction accounting, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger entries.
  • Perform detailed job costing and maintain cost code accuracy for all projects.
  • Prepare and process AIA billing, progress billings, and retainage tracking.
  • Generate and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports to monitor project performance.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and maintain documentation such as W-9s, lien waivers, and insurance certificates (COIs).
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to resolve billing or cost discrepancies.
  • Support audits and provide required documentation for internal and external reviews.
  • Maintain and optimize accounting workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: 3–5 years of construction accounting experience, including job costing and AIA billing.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles and compliance requirements.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Foundation) and Microsoft Excel.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with lien laws and contract compliance.
  • Experience with WIP reporting and cost analysis.
