Responsibilities- Performing hands‑on imaging and analysis of material and hardware samples using optical and electron microscopes (e.g., SEM, EDS).
- Preparing samples for microscopy using techniques such as mounting, polishing, coating, and sectioning.
- Collaborating with research staff to develop and execute imaging plans that support research objectives.
- Supporting research activities by managing microscope scheduling, coordinating equipment maintenance, and maintaining imaging quality standards.
- Leading day‑to‑day lab operations, including ensuring laboratory safety, managing supplies and consumables, and coordinating with facilities.
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you:
- Possess an Associate’s degree in a technical field such as Laboratory Technology, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering, or have equivalent experience.
- Have 2+ years of experience in the microscopy of materials and structures.
- Are familiar with operating and maintaining microscopy equipment (SEM, EDS, optical) in a research and development environment.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills to effectively coordinate among multiple teams.
- Are adaptable, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a dynamic lab setting.
- Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you:
- Have experience performing EBSD or metallographic analysis for research or production.
- Are skilled in using laboratory instrumentation and can quickly adapt to new equipment and techniques.
- Have experience documenting imaging results and maintaining laboratory records or data logs.
