The Physics Group is seeking outstanding cryogenics engineers at all experience levels. We are a hardworking group of scientists, engineers, and physicists who strive to develop innovative cryogenic technologies for the benefit of our nation. As a Cryogenics Engineer, You Will
- Support existing programs through day-to-day operations of various systems and experiments.
- Supply high-quality ideas and insights on both existing and future problems, leading to novel solutions applicable to APL's mission and sponsor needs.
- Perform creative, independent research characterizing thermal, magnetic, and electrical properties of materials in dry 1K, 4K and dilution refrigerator systems.
- Collaborate with a team of physicists, electrical engineers, materials scientists, and fabrication technicians to design experiments, process data, and present findings.
- Be encouraged to fill leadership roles on existing projects, and to propose new research directions for APL's sponsors.
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher in physics, engineering or a closely related field (e.g., materials science, applied physics).
- Have 1+ year experience with cryogenic systems or in characterizing materials or systems at cryogenic temperatures.
- Have a strong desire to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, applied science environment.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
- Have a Master’s degree or higher in engineering, physics, or a closely related field.
- Have experience measuring thermal and electrical properties of materials at cryogenic temperatures.
- Have experience designing and troubleshooting experimental setups in cryogenic systems.
- Have extensive experience operating millikelvin test systems.
- Have an active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance.
