The Health and Human-Machine Systems Group seeks to design and operationalize advanced and autonomous solutions to revolutionize healthcare and socio-technical systems. We leverage engineering, computer science, and data science to address critical challenges in collaboration with government, academia, and industry. You will join a hardworking team of engineers and researchers responsible for developing innovative solutions and integrating data-driven processes, AI, and ML principles.
You will partner with creative thinkers, motivated problem solvers, and life-long learners in support of our country and our warfighters.
- You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary, high-performing team on projects related to global health, special operations, and cyber security.
- You will collaborate with engineers, scientists, and technical experts to investigate, evaluate, analyze, and prototype technologies and operational solutions.
- You will interface with operational stakeholders to understand and document their needs, translating them into requirements to facilitate system design, development, modeling & simulation (M&S), and test/evaluation (T&E).
- You will apply knowledge of healthcare and emerging technologies to define innovative approaches to address operational challenges and foster cross-organizational collaboration.
- You will support the development, documentation, review, and presentation of work products for diverse audiences, and participate in design and peer reviews to gather feedback on technical approaches.
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, or related technical field with a strong academic record.
- Experience in at least one of the following:
- Data analysis and/or M&S using Python, R, or Matlab
- Software/model development using Python or other OO languages
- Developing data pipelines for analysis and modeling
- Systems engineering using Cameo or Magic Draw
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to travel occasionally for meetings with government sponsors and stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Secret clearance. Eligibility includes U.S. citizenship.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research, or related field with strong academic performance.
- Experience leading technical projects and developing innovative proposals to advance healthcare technologies.
- Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.

The referenced pay range is based on APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on location, experience, market conditions, education, and skill level with consideration for internal parity.
