Overview
Director wanted for a development week and rehearsed reading of a new play about Mary Brooksbank in Dundee.
The PlayOh Dear Me is a new play by Matthew Knights exploring the life of Mary Brooksbank ). Born in Aberdeen, Mary spent most of her life living in Dundee as a jute mill worker, working class poet, songwriter and social activist who described herself as having one ambition “to make my contribution to destroy the capitalist system.” The play is a theatrical exploration of her life story featuring songs written by Mary, most famously “Oh Dear Me/The Jute Mill Song” lines from which are inscribed on the wall of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.
We are excited to be bringing the story of this important woman to life in the town where she lived and worked.
