Deputy Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering Mission
The Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IGM) is seeking a Deputy Director of the Institute (40%) starting on January 1, 2026, or on another mutually agreed date close to this.
In order to strengthen its strategic and operational leadership, the STI Faculty is looking for its future Assistant to the Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering. Reporting directly to the Director of the Institute, you will play a key role in the management of the Institute, with strong involvement in internal and external academic relations.
The ideal candidate has an excellent knowledge of EPFL and holds an engineering degree, preferably in the field of mechanical engineering (a PhD would be an asset). He/she demonstrates strong skills in management and institutional communication, as well as a strong interest in the academic environment. This position is intended for a person who wishes to pursue a career in academia and management.
Main duties and responsibilitiesActivities associated with this role include:
- Planning and facilitating internal seminars;
- Editing and maintaining the website;
- Preparing press kits, brochures, activity reports, etc.;
- Liaising with professional associations and universities or research centers active in the field of mechanical engineering.
Organizing and coordinating the administration of IGM:
- Preparing and coordinating the budget;
- Coordinating and managing infrastructure;
- Coordinating and monitoring the budgets of professors and visiting researchers;
- Preparing and monitoring statistical indicators of IGM activities;
- Coordinating and providing logistical support for IGM audits;
- Supporting recruitment campaigns for IGM professors.
These tasks require extensive interaction and coordination with EPFL central services and the STI Faculty, as well as with IGM laboratories.
Profile- Solid experience in administrative management;
- Strong interest in university education and great value for interaction with research laboratories;
- Strong teamwork skills and an excellent sense of organization;
- Fluency in French and English; knowledge of any other European language is an asset.
