Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician – Electronics & Electroacoustics to support the operation of the Company’s electroacoustics laboratory and the development and application of its patented Plasmapanel technology.

The Sonexos laboratory supports fundamental and applied development activities across plasmacoustics, acoustics, electronics, embedded systems, firmware, and associated measurement and test disciplines, and is used extensively by our Applications Engineering team for customer feasibility studies, benchmarking, prototype development, and validation of equipment prior to dispatch to customers. The successful candidate will take practical responsibility for ensuring that the laboratory’s electronic and electroacoustic infrastructure is operational, appropriately configured, maintained, and available to support engineering activities.

A particular focus of the position will be the commissioning and operation of electronic hardware and embedded firmware used to drive and control Plasmapanel systems — assembling and configuring test benches, preparing and commissioning prototype electronics, installing firmware, configuring power supplies, amplifiers, interfaces and measurement equipment, diagnosing faults, and supporting engineers in bringing new development hardware into operation. While our Applications Engineers provide strong acoustics and applications expertise, the Laboratory Technician will provide complementary practical capability in electronics, embedded hardware, firmware commissioning, instrumentation, and laboratory systems, and will participate directly in Applications Engineering and R&D activities.

The scope of independent execution will grow with experience in the role. Starting under closer engineering direction, the successful candidate will progressively take independent responsibility for preparing experimental setups from engineering briefs, executing baseline and standardised measurement campaigns, and undertaking preliminary feasibility work on customer appliances — enabling our engineers and scientists to concentrate on technology development, analysis, and design decisions.

Experimental objectives, methods, and the interpretation of results remain with the responsible engineers.

The position reports to the Company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and is based at the Company’s R&D facility in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Company’s electroacoustics and plasmacoustics laboratory, keeping test benches, instrumentation, electronics, and supporting infrastructure functional, well organised, and ready for engineering use.
  • Assemble, configure, commission, and maintain electronic test benches, including power supplies, amplifiers, signal sources, oscilloscopes, data-acquisition equipment, cabling, and interfaces.
  • Undertake practical electronics work — soldering, rework, cable and wiring-harness fabrication, connectorisation, and prototype assembly and modification — to a high standard.
  • Commission electronic hardware and embedded firmware used to drive and control Plasmapanel systems, including loading, configuring, and verifying firmware and performing structured functional checks.
  • Prepare prototype Plasmapanel systems and development hardware, and support their integration with electronic drive systems, control hardware, acoustic test equipment, and customer appliances.
  • Provide practical laboratory support to Applications Engineers on customer feasibility, benchmarking, and validation programmes, including preliminary characterisation of customer appliances on receipt, preparation and instrumentation of appliances and systems, baseline measurements in advance of detailed engineering analysis, and trial fitting of Plasmapanel prototypes.
  • Translate engineering briefs into practical experimental arrangements: build, instrument, and commission experimental setups, and execute initial, baseline, and standardised measurement campaigns independently where procedures and acceptance criteria have been defined.
  • Support engineers in the execution of more complex or exploratory acoustic, electroacoustic, electrical, and system-level…
