Position: R&D AI Intern - Scientific Knowledge Integration

Location: Vers-Chez-Les-Blanc, Lausanne, Switzerland

Work model: On site

Contract type / duration: Internship – 6 months, 100%

Start date: As soon as possible

As a R&D AI Intern – Scientific Knowledge Integration, you will contribute to the development of next‑generation AI tools supporting scientific research and product development at Nestlé Research. The objective of this project is to build on existing AI capabilities to implement functional AI agents capable of extracting specific data and knowledge from internal knowledge sources such as documents, datasets, and domain‑specific knowledge, and to support a specific scientific workflow in the domain of product development.

This is a hands‑on, product‑oriented project where you will build practical AI capabilities that can evolve into internal tools used by scientists and product developers. This is your opportunity to make an impact while gaining hands‑on experience and mentorship to kick‑start your career.

Responsibilities
  • Extracting specific structured information from unstructured text, such as ingredient composition, dosage ranges, and constraints, using AI‑powered approaches
  • Exploring ways to normalise and map data across heterogeneous sources to support AI‑enabled scientific workflows
  • Leveraging existing tools and pipelines for knowledge and data retrieval to strengthen AI‑driven solutions
  • Structuring and connecting scientific data so it can power digital tools that support product development decisions
  • Validating AI outputs to ensure the information is accurate, relevant, and useful for real‑world scientific decisions
Qualifications
  • Current Bachelor/Master’s Student or fresh graduate in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Science, or related fields
  • Python coding skills and the ability to build clean, well‑structured, and well‑documented solutions
  • Having a foundation in machine learning, natural language processing, large language models, and AI engineering concepts
  • Being a critical thinker who enjoys solving problems, validating results, and collaborating in an agile environment with curiosity and initiative
  • Fluency in English
  • Demonstrating courage, collaboration, speed and continuous learning
