Tradition is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Software Engineer to be based within the Lausanne office.
Main responsibilities within the Senior Software Engineer position include:- Audit existing projects to identify recurring software requirements, patterns and opportunities for standardisation across repositories.
- Consolidate the strongest existing implementations into versioned, documented and well-owned internal packages, with clear interfaces and well-defined module boundaries.
- Define and maintain the software strategy, prioritising shared libraries and components that will deliver the greatest value across the wider engineering organisation.
- Design, evaluate and select internal tooling with stable, well-documented APIs, building bespoke solutions only where suitable existing tools do not meet requirements.
- Support the transition of projects from proof of concept to production, acting as the engineering bridge between Data Science and Data Engineering through architecture reviews, refactoring guidance and modularisation.
- Review technical designs at project inception to encourage the use of shared components, reduce duplication and ensure solutions are designed for maintainability, testing, deployment and reuse.
- Lead the incremental migration of existing projects onto shared components, balancing technical improvements with the need to maintain delivery timelines.
- Mentor and support the team on software engineering best practices, including SOLID principles, modular design, information hiding, abstraction, API design and managing change over time.
- Own and maintain project templates with CI/CD, linting, type checking and test frameworks pre-configured, ensuring new projects start with consistent engineering standards.
- Own the shared AI-assisted development configuration, including project context, hooks and coding standards, ensuring consistent development practices and code quality across the team.
- Work closely with the Data Science and Data Engineering workgroup to translate agreed technical standards and decisions into practical, reusable infrastructure and tooling.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
- Expert-level Python, with demonstrated library and API design experience: you have built and maintained internal packages that other teams depended on.
- Strong software design fundamentals: design patterns, modularity, information hiding, abstraction layering, API design, and managing change over time.
- Solid engineering practice:
- Git / version control and code review discipline
- Unit & integration testing
- CI/CD, linting, type checking, environment promotion
- Logging, error handling, debugging
- Working understanding of machine learning principles.
- Fluency with modern AI-assisted development, and clear opinions on the guardrails it requires.
- Comfortable in Linux and containerised environments (e.g. Docker).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with ML lifecycle tooling: experiment tracking, model registries, model monitoring.
- Knowledge of ML Ops principles and pipelines.
- Experience with distributed data processing (e.g. Spark / PySpark).
- Exposure to quantitative finance data and workflows.
- High-level understanding of Kubernetes.
