OverviewAs a member of the military, Training Development Officers provide guidance and advice on the systematic approach to training and education and the Canadian Forces Individual Training and Education System.
They are responsible for ensuring quality and quantity control of training, guiding the development, management, and provision of training solutions, teaching in various settings, managing learning resources, conducting human performance research, analyzing operational job performance requirements, identifying organizational needs, and facilitating solutions to performance problems.
Work environmentTraining Development Officers work mainly in office settings at CAF schools, units, bases, command, or National Defence Headquarters. They may also support military operations or missions in deployed environments.
If you join the Regular Force, you will be assigned to your first base after training, with potential relocations. If you join the Primary Reserve Force, you will work part-time at a Reserve unit, with flexibility regarding relocations, typically working one night per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time employment.

The preferred degree is a Master's in Education with three years of full-time experience as an educational or training consultant. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and relevant experience may be considered for on-the-job training following Basic Military Officer Qualification.
TrainingBasic officer training lasts 12 weeks at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, covering military knowledge, leadership, regulations, weapons handling, and first aid. Following this, language training may be provided. Training Development Officers receive five months of specialized training in Borden, Ontario, and approximately three months of on-the-job training at a base.
Part-time optionsAvailable for part-time employment with the Primary Reserve at various locations, involving serving in a local unit, assisting with training activities, and potential transition to full-time employment.
