Director of Operations

Major Responsibilities

• Leadership
  • Develop an operations environment and culture that maximizes the contribution and results of all personnel through frequent plant visits, meetings, audits of personnel performance and results, feedback on expectations, and joint development of corrective action plans.
  • Meet frequently with Plant Management to understand plant issues.
  • At least once per quarter hold a formal business review meeting with Plant Management.
  • Manage efficiently and knowledgeably by observing and analyzing issues first‑hand.
  • Ensure solutions are team‑based and fully accepted by the Plant Management team.
  • Communicate effectively and responsively at all organizational levels.
  • Be approachable for key personnel at any time.
  • Recognize good performance and provide feedback.
  • Regularly review performance of key personnel.
  • Provide regular feedback on expectations.
  • Assist Plant Management with annual budgets and capital plans.
• Operations Optimization
  • Provide direction, counseling, development, and guidance to each plant manager and key staff across a wide range of plant operating responsibilities.
  • Safety and Environmental Programs & Performance
    • Ensure plants follow Silgan Safety Standards.
    • Maintain a proven safety incentive plan and work with HR to revise as needed.
  • Silgan HR Policies
  • Quality Improvement Programs for products and customers
    • Review key indices with Plant Management regularly.
    • Monitor and provide feedback on housekeeping and GMP expectations.
    • Use root‑cause analysis and statistical tools for corrective action plans.
  • Customer service practices and actual customer satisfaction
  • Plant productivity and scheduling improvements
    • Capacity planning to meet future growth and customer demands.
    • Action plans to achieve and/or exceed plant efficiency OEE goals.
    • Effective scheduling and maximization of idle assets.
  • Machinery and molding technical issues
    • Coordinate internal and/or external resources to address machine and molding issues.
  • Plant financial performance
    • Encourage plant managers to run facilities as if they own the business.
    • Ensure key managers understand controllable costs.
    • Assist plants in developing forecasts.
    • Review monthly profit & loss reports and develop action plans to improve future performance.
  • Cost reduction projects/programs
  • Overall plant staff development and job enrichment to develop personnel.
  • Engage and interact with all employees, using common sense and earning respect through actions.
  • Capital project requirements and support plant investment needs.
• CROSS‑FUNCTIONAL COORDINATION
  • Coordinate operations, sales, pricing, and technology to support growth and profitability targets.
  • Generate sales coordination to meet customer expectations from order entry through delivery, and to support business growth.
  • Coordinate pricing of operational inputs to maximize market competitiveness of proposals and bids.
  • Coordinate technology with Norcross to achieve best‑in‑class machinery and operational systems, and prioritize shared resources for optimal utilization.
  • Lead or participate as a project team member on major projects.
  • Optimize equipment utilization between plants to ensure assets are used where they provide the best business sense.

• Required:
  
  Bachelor’s degree
• Preferred:
  Master’s degree

• Required:
  
  10+ years of leadership in a manufacturing setting
• Preferred:
  Plastics industry experience
