About the opportunity

The Process Engineering Specialist will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Continuous Improvement to improve plastics separation performance and the reliability of associated shredding and float-sink processing systems.

You will spend significant time on the production floor, learning the equipment, working with operators, and investigating what causes downtime or inconsistent performance. During your first six months, your priorities will include developing a thorough understanding of the processing line, addressing recurring issues, and building strong working relationships across the facility.

What you’ll be doing

As the Process Engineering Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor and optimize process parameters to improve throughput, separation efficiency, and material recovery.
  • Investigate equipment downtime, recurring failures, and production bottlenecks.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze production and operating data to identify trends and measure improvements.
  • Work with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Balance upstream shredding capacity with downstream processing requirements.
  • Provide technical input on equipment repairs, modifications, upgrades, and commissioning.
  • Develop SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and process control documentation.
  • Train and support operators and supervisors on equipment performance and operating practices.
  • Collaborate with plant teams to implement sustainable improvements and promote safe operations.
What you bring

The successful Process Engineering Specialist will have:

  • A degree or diploma in Process, Chemical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on industrial processing or manufacturing experience.
  • Strong process troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated experience improving equipment performance, production efficiency, or reliability.
  • Experience analyzing process data and developing practical technical recommendations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience creating SOPs and technical documentation.
  • An understanding of preventive maintenance, process performance metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with operators, maintenance personnel, and plant leadership.
  • A practical approach to problem‑solving and comfort working directly on the production floor.
Experience that would be an asset
  • Plastics processing, plastics recycling, or material recovery
  • Float-sink or density separation systems
  • Shredding, washing, or wet processing equipment
  • Water treatment systems, clarifiers, filter presses, or chemical dosing
  • Optical sorting, magnetic separation, or eddy current separation
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or CMMS experience
  • P.Eng., EIT, or C.E.T. designation

Direct plastics separation experience is an asset, but is not required. Candidates from other manufacturing or industrial processing environments who bring strong equipment troubleshooting and process optimization experience are encouraged to apply.
