Practices competently within the Professional Standards for Registered Nurses in Ontario as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario in the following standard areas and performs duties in the Cardiac Intervention Unit pre- and post-procedure areas:

• Provide direct patient care for Cardiology patients undergoing procedures in the CIU, with responsibility reporting to the CIU & Cardiac Care Unit Manager.
• Participate in pre/post procedure care and ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Transcribe and verify physician orders; administer medications and treatments per professional standards; document outcomes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to develop, review and update patient care plans; communicate changes in patient status to MRP and nursing leadership.
• Monitor cardiovascular status, including rhythm interpretation, pacemaker device analysis/programming as required, and groin management.
• Support infection prevention and control practices; maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, families and staff.
• Act as patient advocate and incorporate evidence-based practice into clinical care.
• Contribute to unit orientation, professional practice activities and ongoing professional development.
• Assist in equipment and supplies management; participate in patient flow and discharge planning initiatives.

• Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.
• Critical Care Certificate preferred or completed within two years of hire;
  Coronary Care I & II required.
• Must pass an arrhythmia screening quiz with 80% to proceed to interview.
• Minimum of one (1) year of critical care experience or equivalent in ED/CCU/ICU; prior Cardiac Intervention Unit experience required for Cath Lab vacancies.
• Experience in pre/post-care environments; intra-aortic balloon pump experience preferred.
• Strong cardiovascular physiology, electrocardiography and rhythm interpretation skills; experience with aortic hemodynamic monitoring and groin management.
• Pacemaker device analysis/programming experience; excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team; able to adapt in a fast-paced environment; commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
• Commitment to professional practice, continuing education, lifelong learning and a reliable attendance/work record.
