Position Overview
The student assistant’s role is to provide excellent customer service to KU Band students, faculty, staff, and visitors at the front desk. This position supports the KU Band administrative office with general office duties, including answering phones and greeting visitors, word processing, filing, copying, data entry, mailing, and other tasks as assigned. Additionally, the student assistant provides faculty support as needed or requested.
Job Description 60%- Administrative & Clerical Support- Perform general clerical tasks, including data entry and word processing.
- Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Coordinate internal and external communications.
- Complete errands and support office operations as needed.
- Assist with recruitment activities, including scheduling interviews and maintaining candidate records.
- Monitor and manage inventory of office and recruitment materials.
- Ensure timely ordering and replenishment of supplies.
- Support planning and execution of events, meetings, and recruitment activities.
- Assist with logistics, setup, and on-site coordination.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental goals.
- Undergraduate School of Music major at the University of Kansas with a 3.0 GPA or higher, as indicated on application materials.
- Excellent written communication skills, as indicated on application materials.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
