Position Overview
University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support program consisting of three unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the University’s commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. The Student Access Center (SAC) is one of the centers within UASC. The SAC serves students with documented disabilities to provide equal access to academic materials and programs, and to co‑curricular programs and activities.
This position reports to the Assistant Director in the SAC.
The primary responsibility is to serve as an academic aide to assist students with disabilities in labs or classrooms.
- 90% Serve as a laboratory aide; note‑taking in the classroom; proctoring, scribing, and reading exams; physically manipulating objects; and assisting with live computer navigation and program usage for the student.
- 5% Communication with supervisor at the Student Access Center about challenges or concerns.
- 5% Other duties as assigned.
- At least 1 year of experience using a variety of computer programs as evidenced by application materials.
- Comfortable learning and using new computer programs or lab equipment, as evidenced by application materials and/or interview.
- Eligible for Federal Work Study.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourlier must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourlier must: have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester with no less than 6 hours, or be enrolled in a summer session, or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student hourliers may be undergraduate or graduate students. Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments.
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
