Position Overview
The Tutoring and Coaching Coordinator supports the University Academic Support Centers (UASC) leadership in the ongoing development of the Wingspan:
Center for Learning and Writing Support and the culture of learning at the University of Kansas by collaborating with the Program Coordinator, Tutoring, in the coordination of Wingspan's peer tutoring program, including the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation of tutors. Additionally, the coordinator will support the Peer Academic Coaching Program, ensuring the Wingspan provides a range of adaptive, student-focused programming.
The Tutoring and Coaching Coordinator works as part of a collaborative leadership team to manage the daily operations of the Wingspan and reports to the Associate Director of the Wingspan:
Center for Learning and Writing Support. This is a position within the Wingspan, a unit in the University Academic Support Centers, which offers programs and services to students, faculty, and staff across all writing levels and disciplines.
University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support unit designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at KU while supporting the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills;
and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Wingspan:
Center for Learning and Writing Support, the Student Access Center, and the University Testing Center. UASC is a department within the Office of Academic Success.
- 30%:
Collaborates with the Program Coordinator, Tutoring, in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation of peer tutors. - 25%:
Coordinates undergraduate peer academic coaching services, including the recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and educating of a cohort of 12-15 coaches during fall, spring, and summer sessions, following CRLA principles and standards. Collaborates with the Program Manager, Peer Educator Development, in the coordination, facilitation, and evaluation of training and professional development programs for peer academic coaching team. - 15%:
Promotes a culture of learning tiates and coordinates activities to build and strengthen relationships with faculty and academic staff across the Lawrence and Edwards campuses. Collaborates with other offices on campus that provide instructional support, such as the Center for Teaching Excellence and Center for Faculty Development and Mentoring. Collaborates with academic support across campus to advocate for student learning support and provides workshops and resources to support a culture of lifelong learning. - 15%:
Collaborates with the Associate Director of Wingspan:
Center for Writing and Learning Support in collecting and assessing programmatic data for peer academic coaching program. Uses quantitative and qualitative data to assess program outcomes with a view toward continual improvement. - 5%:
Assesses student needs. Collaborates with the Program Coordinator, Student Success, to develop and implement services, events, workshops, and materials to meet identified needs. - 5%:
Maintains an active scholarly practice in Learning Assistance Programs, College Student Development, and/or one or more of the disciplines where tutoring is provided. Maintains involvement in relevant professional organizations and participates in scholarly and professional development activities consistent with current trends, developments, and high impact practices in learning assistance programs. - 5%:
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
