Job Description
Position Overview:
The Career Center Student Specialists (CCSS) are student leaders who communicate University Career Center programming, services, and opportunities to students and to the University of Kansas community. CCSSs serve as a vital direct link between the UCC and students who are seeking career advising. They provide warm and friendly customer service at the UCC front desk, managing email, phone, and in‑person inquiries.
CCSSs also review resumes, video mock interviews, and represent the UCC during tabling and Career events.
Career Center Student Specialists assist with:
- 50% front desk coverage
- 30% data management projects for professional staff
- 10% resume reviews
- 10% outreach
- A current undergraduate at the University of Kansas
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience in Microsoft Office, as evidenced by application materials.
- Federal Work Study eligibility
- Enthusiastic and willing to learn, a positive attitude, and excellent customer service skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask as evidenced by application materials.
- A team player who can work effectively with others, as evidenced by application materials.
- Dependable and reliable as evidenced by application materials.
- Ability to follow through and complete tasks and assignments as evidenced by application materials.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, or be enrolled in summer session, or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
