Student Editorial Assistant at Inside Higher Ed
Position OverviewThis position will provide editorial support for the Aerospace Short Course Program. The incumbent will assist the Senior Publications Manager with formatting course PowerPoint slides and PDFs, and performing accessibility checks via Canvas, KU’s Learning Management System, to adhere to federal ADA guidelines. This position is offered at the Lawrence Campus.
Job Description- Review instructional materials for ADA compliance.
- Apply ADA‑compliant department template, add alternative text to images, and format materials to comply with ADA requirements.
- Collaborate with Senior Publications Manager to ensure materials adhere to ADA guidelines as outlined by the Extended Learning style guide and KU Aerospace Short Course PowerPoint template.
- Collaborate with instructors and staff to gather and organize course materials in preparation for editing.
- Export files to PDFs and upload to the testing page in Canvas to perform accessibility reports.
- Maintain accurate records of edited documents and accessibility reports.
- Provide general editorial support for the Aerospace Short Course program, including document organization and file management.
- Stay informed on accessibility best practices and university standards related to digital content and learning platforms.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Experience with clerical, organizational, and computer duties, as demonstrated in application materials and interview process.
- Proficiency with workplace software, including Adobe, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated by cover letter, application, and resume.
- Current Aerospace Engineering student.
- Familiarity with the American Disabilities Act guidelines.
- Knowledge of aerospace engineering terminology.
- Intermediate‑level proficiency with PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Canvas.
- Experience handling multiple projects, multitasking, and proofreading.
- Attention to detail and reliable work history.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
