Position Overview This position plays a vital role in supporting the University’s critical education mission by providing consistent, high-quality instructional support. The individual will assist faculty and teaching staff in the preparation and delivery of course materials, support classroom and laboratory activities, and contribute to the effective assessment of student learning. By ensuring smooth course operations and enhancing the learning experience, this position helps maintain the University’s commitment to academic excellence and student success.
Job Description100% – Course Support and Instruction
- Assist a biology professor or graduate teaching assistant with all aspects of course delivery.
- Prepare laboratory materials, support classroom presentations, proctor exams, and grade lab reports and quizzes.
- Under the supervision of the lab director, may also independently teach small laboratory sections for non‑major students.
- Declared major in Biology, a related science field, or Education, as indicated in the application materials.
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a degree program at the University of Kansas (KU).
- At least junior standing (or higher) at the time of employment.
- Earned a grade of “A” in the biology course(s) relevant to the lab(s) being taught.
- Maintains an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- Preference given to students eligible for Federal Work‑Study funding.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student hourly appointments may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments).
