Our Industrial and Water market is growing across North America, and we are adding Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Designers to our team in Kiewit offices in Kansas, Colorado, Minnesota and Texas. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in electrical systems and equipment design, as well as experience designing industrial plant projects. LocationThis position can be based out of any of the following Kiewit offices, with some flexibility for hybrid work:
Lenexa, Kansas;
Minneapolis, Minnesota;
Lone Tree, Colorado;
Westlake, Texas;
Houston, Texas. Fully remote options may be considered for very senior individuals who meet and exceed our qualifications. We do offer relocation to our Lenexa office only.
- Coordinate with the project team using the Project Database, Request for Review Process, Holds List, ECN, RFI from other disciplines, and all other applicable functions.
- Utilize applicable engineering national and local codes.
- Develop schematics and one-line drawings from engineering sketches or mark-ups.
- Design duct bank, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding and lighting systems from concept to completion using engineering documents, sketches or vendor data.
- Develop 3D models using drawings, sketches, and design skills; check and navigate in the 3D models for interferences and constructability.
- Route electrical cables in a 3D environment to generate a cable schedule.
- Model electrical components using vendor submittals and electrical designs.
- Perform calculations to check allowable fill in conduits and cable tray systems according to NEC requirements and size pull boxes.

- Gather information needed to develop design and verify voltage separation requirements are met.
- Create plan drawings and details for electrical deliverables.
- Analyze, inspect, and construct designs while adhering to electrical quality standards and department procedures.
- Provide lessons learned throughout the project by utilizing the Lessons Learned database.
- Complete as-builts using RFI forms, ECNs, and red-marked construction drawings to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
- Participate in project meetings as required.
- Check design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
- Resolve checked drawings, proof and understand comments made.
- Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
- Associate, Vocational or Bachelor’s degree in Design/Drafting technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mathematics or similar; if no degree, must have 15 years’ experience performing functions as outlined above.
- Eight years of electrical design experience as outlined above.
- Experience utilizing 3D programs such as Micro Station, AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or Navisworks and knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
