APRN, Psychiatry – Heartland Community Health Center – Lawrence, KS
Reports to:
Director of Psychiatry
Status:
Exempt (Contract $140,000 - $160,000)
The primary responsibility of the Psychiatric APRN will be to assist the Director of Psychiatry in the delivery of an effective, efficient program of psychiatric services to adults and children, with particular emphasis on services essential to psychopharmacological services; integrated health services; effective diversion to outpatient community-based programs; liaison with medical community; team consultation; integration of primary and behavioral health care;
and promotion of quality assured managed care service system.
- Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for patients ages 6 and older, in accordance with scope of practice, clinical guidelines, and organizational policies.
- Diagnosing Mental Health
Conditions:
Assess patients to determine if they meet the criteria for specific mental health disorders in an outpatient clinic. This role will conduct thorough evaluations, including medical history reviews, and psychological assessments, to reach an accurate diagnosis. - Developing Treatment Plans:
Develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to the individual's needs. This may involve prescribing medications, recommending psychotherapy or other evidence‑based therapies, and providing guidance on lifestyle modifications. - Evaluation:
Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering laboratory tests and evaluating results. - Medication Management:
Prescribe and monitor medications used in the treatment of mental health conditions. They assess the patient's response to medication, adjust as necessary, and educate patients about potential side effects and interactions. - Collaborate with Other Healthcare Professionals:
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as primary care providers, social workers, and dentists, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for their patients. This role may consult and collaborate with colleagues to determine the most effective treatment approaches. - Monitor Progress and Follow‑up Care:
Regularly assess the progress of their patients and adjust treatment plans as needed. Monitor the effectiveness of medications, evaluate the impact of therapy, and provide ongoing support to help individuals achieve their treatment goals. - Interdisciplinary Care:
Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers. - Crisis Intervention:
Provide crisis intervention and assessment for patients seeking care or referred to by healthcare professionals.- May provide consultation
