Summary
The Field Operator is an infrastructure maintenance position that will perform a variety of skilled, semi‑skilled, technical, and/or manual labor activities and duties related to the maintenance and repair of public infrastructure. Field Operators may be assigned to collection/distribution system maintenance, street maintenance (concrete and asphalt), storm water construction and maintenance, levee maintenance or airport maintenance, or water meter reading, and will be cross‑trained in field maintenance operations.
ResponsibilitiesDuties may include installation, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure within city right‑of‑way, property, easement, and facilities; use of computer technology; water meter readings; and operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools required for position assignment. All crews assist with special in‑house construction projects, may be assigned to assist other crews, provide emergency response and seasonal snow removal, and may include 12‑hour shifts working days and/or nights.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required. Three years of increasingly responsible heavy equipment operation, construction, or building trades preferred. Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license; will be required to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire. Must acquire job‑required certifications within 24/42 months of hire for continued employment. The successful candidate must pass the City background check post‑offer, City physical, and drug screen.
