Overview

Driver/Operator — Lawrence, KS via KU/City Transit System. We are currently on the lookout for an experienced or new bus driver to join our elite team. As a key member, you will be entrusted with ensuring safe and comfortable transportation for our passengers, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.

Position and Compensation

CBA Position: Position Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Starting Pay $20.70/hour with progression to $27.43 over 5 years
Benefits
  • Paid Training – will train you to obtain a Class B CDL!
  • Other standard benefits: 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental and vision, life insurance, short-term disability, voluntary long-term disability
  • Holiday: 4 standard holidays to start, 6 after probation, plus 1 floating holiday after probation
  • Paid PTO/Vacation - 1.54 hours per pay period after 90 days

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety-Focused Operations:
    Execute operations by following designated routes and schedules, while adhering to safety protocols and traffic regulations.
  • Passenger Care:
    Exhibit exceptional care towards passengers, ensuring smooth boarding, comfortable rides, and timely disembarkation.
  • Vehicle Vigilance:
    Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, report maintenance issues promptly, and maintain cleanliness and safety equipment readiness.
  • Adherence to Protocols:
    Uphold company policies and procedures, including seat belt enforcement, emergency readiness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • 19 years or older
  • Minimum 3 years of driving experience (personal or professional)
  • Must hold a Valid CDL (or permit)
  • Class A or B CDL with passenger and airbrake endorsements required. We are willing to train candidates with a permit
  • Excellent communication & customer service skills
  • Availability to work: day, evening, weekend and overnight shifts as assigned
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason
Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; 100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds; lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to access files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing duties; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes and noise
