Position SummaryLawrence High School is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-driven ESL Co-Teacher to support instruction in high‑school level classrooms. The ESL Co‑Teacher will work in collaboration with general education teachers to ensure English Language Learners (ELLs) are accessing rigorous, standards‑based content while developing their academic English proficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Co‑teach five academic sections.
- Collaborate to align instruction with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Support the implementation of common assessments measuring progress toward standards.
- Use data from formative and summative assessments to differentiate and inform instruction.
- Meet weekly with content and interdisciplinary teams to plan and review student progress.
- Work closely with Special Education and ESL staff to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Participate in biweekly instructional coaching to continuously improve practice.
- Serve as an advisor to a small cohort of students, fostering academic and social growth.
- Communicate weekly with students and families to support learning and engagement.
- Contribute to a positive school culture focused on high expectations and student success.
- Assist in supporting students' transition from middle school to high school.
- Deep commitment to educational equity and serving multilingual learners.
- Familiarity with co‑teaching models and collaboration in inclusive settings.
- Strong classroom management and relationship‑building skills.
- Understanding of culturally responsive and trauma‑informed teaching practices.
- Capacity to analyze data and adapt instruction to meet student needs.
- Growth mindset and willingness to implement feedback.
- Ability to stay focused and adaptable in a fast‑paced school environment.
- Respect for and responsiveness to diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- A collaborative spirit and sense of humor.
- Bachelor's degree required;
Master's degree preferred. - Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure in ESL and/or History/Social Studies preferred.
- SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement required.
- Passing scores on Communication & Literacy and relevant subject matter knowledge tests.
- Minimum of two years' experience in a diverse school setting preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
