The primary role of the Orientation Leader (OL) is to provide professional, peer‑to‑peer guidance to incoming students and their families, while showcasing exceptional school spirit. OLs help ensure guests feel confident, connected, and excited to join the Grizzly family. All Orientation Leaders are required to fully attend, participate in, and work during all scheduled training sessions, set‑up days, and Grizzly Orientation events during the peak seasons:
November‑January and April‑August. A few trainings and retreats may be scheduled weeks prior but will be communicated well in advance.
- Lead and assist with small group discussions, icebreakers, campus tours, and sessions.
- Serve as a welcoming, knowledgeable, and approachable resource positively answering questions and providing guidance about academics, campus involvement, and student services.
- Represent the college with enthusiasm, inclusivity, and pride by maintaining a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports student engagement and peer‑to‑peer connection.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with fellow Orientation Leaders, New Student Connections staff, and campus partners.
- Stay informed about current college services, offices, events, and support programs.
- Follow campus policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well‑being of all participants.
- Thrive in a fast‑paced environment with long days and unexpected changes while embracing active workdays filled with walking, outdoor tasks, and hands‑on responsibilities (e.g., set‑up, breakdown, transport materials).
- Drive GGC golf carts to transport supplies and quickly report to various locations.
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Georgia Gwinnett College.
- Must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA) and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
- Must be in good conduct standing with Georgia Gwinnett College and maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.
- Will be enrolled as an undergraduate student for at least two additional semesters following the summer of employment.
- Professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to be highly organized, attentive to details, time‑management, critical thinking, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate a desire to learn about GGC and help others become successful students.
- Demonstrate pride in GGC and the willingness to share the pride with incoming students and families.
- Comfortable speaking in front of large groups and leading discussions.
- Physically able to participate in long days that include walking, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- On‑campus and/or community involvement.
- Previous experience in leadership, mentoring, customer service, or peer education roles.
- Willingness to be the GGC Mascot,
¿ General¿, at orientations. - Has computer and Wi‑Fi access to work virtual orientations.
- Obtain a GA‑issued Driver's License before the Orientation season begins.
- Familiarity with campus resources, departments, and student life at GGC.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for helping others and representing the college.
- Experience working with diverse groups of people or first‑year student populations.
- Problem‑solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
