Job Summary

The School of Education is seeking self‑motivated and proactive Education students to serve as Peer Mentors. Peer Mentors will work with freshman and sophomore pre‑education majors to help them learn about the field of education and navigate the pre‑education stage of the program. Activities may include supporting programming activities, program promotion, leading workshops, and conference attendance. Peer Mentors will benefit from professional development from faculty and staff and from being part of a Professional Learning Community.

Letter(s) of recommendation by a GGC faculty or staff member are required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide informal mentoring support for pre‑education majors (P‑12 Teacher Workforce Program participants).
  • Assist with managing and scheduling programming activities.
  • Assist with designing, preparing, and distributing promotional materials for P‑12 Teacher Workforce Program workshops and related events.
  • Help maintain related social media platforms as needed.
  • Assist with event/meeting set‑up and clean‑up.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Must have declared a major in Education at Georgia Gwinnett College, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or greater.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits at Georgia Gwinnett College.
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience promoting and supporting events.
  • Software proficiency such as Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Able to work 5‑10 hours a week as needed.
  • Able to exercise discretion to handle confidential information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are expected.
  • Able to act responsibly with resources such as technology and information.
  • Engage and interact in a friendly and professional manner.
