Description:

District Distribution Engineer I

Position Objectives

To provide technical assistance in the design and construction of the Cooperative’s distribution system and provide input in the areas of possible improvement to existing facilities; serve as the point of contact for large consumers within the district with ongoing construction, expansion, or adjustment needs related to the Cooperative’s distribution system; provide technical assistance to consumers, provide supervision for section personnel assigned;

work in a team-oriented environment and provide the leadership and vision consistent with the mission of the Cooperative.

Education

Require Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field. Prefer a degree in Electrical Engineering. Prefer significant progress toward EIT certification and undergraduate curriculum including engineering related to the field of electrical power distribution and transmission. Require ITS certification within one year from the date of hire in the position.

Experience

Require one (1) year of responsible electrical distribution experience involving engineering design and layout for the expansion of the electric distribution system, power requirements, and related specifications and codes.

Knowledge

Require a working knowledge of the application of engineering principles and practices involved in the design and layout of electrical distribution systems, including both overhead and underground. Require a working knowledge of the National Electric Code, National Electrical Safety Code, RUS Specifications, and construction assemblies. Require knowledge of managerial functions including planning, controlling, and the application of supervisory principles in motivating those supervised to effective performance.

Require ability to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities.

Skills

Require effective leadership skills, excellent communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to work in a team environment. Require the ability to do the following: evaluate problems and requirements and plan systems and courses of action which will achieve a consistent, coordinated, and improved level of engineering and operations results; effectively direct and coordinate team projects; develop and maintain good morale;

leverage technology to enhance methods of accomplishing the goals of the department; devise means of securing maximum efficiency of personnel and resources; apply research and study for evaluating activities and keeping abreast of developments in the electric distribution industry. Requires the ability to apply the required technical knowledge and experience in performing the staking of single and three-phase line extensions, relocations and conversions, sizing of transformers, conducting voltage checks, coordinating protective devices, sketches drafting and posting of maps, and completion of related reports with normal minimal supervision.

Requires the ability to apply codes and procedures and exercise judgment in broad aspects for occasional independent action or decision. Requires the ability to meet schedules and standards of assigned work and contribute to an effective flow of work; plan and prepare programs and budgets and evaluate results toward their accomplishment. Must be willing to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities.
