Title: Emergency Medical Technician

Department: EMS Operations

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Supervised by: EMS Operations Supervisor

The EMT responds to emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance service, providing pre-hospital and inter-facility medical care according to protocols, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include driving the vehicle, communicating via radio, ensuring vehicle and equipment maintenance, and assisting with patient care on scene.

• Provide patient care following licensure, policies, and protocols.
• Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and standards of care.
• Respond to assigned calls safely and efficiently.
• Complete documentation accurately and submit as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Current EMT-B licensure
• Current BLS certification
• Georgia Driver’s license
• No more than 2 traffic violations in the past 36 months
• Drivers must be at least 19 years old

• Emergency medical service methods and techniques
• Local EMS and public safety structure
• Insurance billing guidelines
• English reading and medical terminology comprehension
• Report writing and communication skills
• Ability to establish positive relationships and present information effectively

• Use of hands, handling, reaching, talking, and hearing
• Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching
• Lifting up to 180 lbs regularly, up to 300 lbs with assistance
• Vision requirements and ability to transfer patients and equipment

Exposure to weather, hazards, diseases, and illnesses. Irregular schedule, high-priority projects, and travel may be required.
