Base Pay Range

$16.50/hr – $20.00/hr

Overview

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will interact with customers and build strong patient relationships. This apprenticeship gives you a career entry point by guiding you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and maintaining the high skill level required in pharmacy care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and in other pharmacy department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Use pharmacy systems to gather patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive, delightful customer experience.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
  • Perform duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, or Store Manager, including utilizing pharmacy systems, filling prescriptions, verifying medications, scheduling and maintaining workflow, reporting prescription errors, and adhering to quality improvement programs.
  • Perform cashier responsibilities on assigned register and assist customers to OTC aisles as needed.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently.
  • Assist in inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and filing claims for overages, shortages, or damaged goods.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples and coordinating with healthcare clinics.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in building relationships with the local medical community and external providers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of the pharmacy department and ensure adequate supplies.
  • Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification/registration.
  • Attend manager‑requested training to acquire continuing education credits and stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer strong math skills for accurate prescription filling.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
