Mental Health Tech- FT Night Shift

Due to continued growth, we are currently searching for an experienced Mental Health Technician (MHT) with recent behavioral health experience. The Mental Health Technician carries out a variety of direct and indirect nursing patient care activities and tasks which support the maintenance of the therapeutic milieu. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will assist with admission of patients to the unit, search patient belongings upon admission, collect potential self‑harm items per unit policy, orient patients to the unit environment as appropriate to their condition, ensure patients have all personal belongings, and escort patients safely out of the hospital at the time of discharge.

The MHT renders quality patient care as evidenced by proficient completion of:

• Taking and recording vital signs
• Measuring and recording intake and output
• Weighing patients
• Keeping information boards current regarding patient observation levels, lithium levels, lab tests, etc.
• Observing assigned patients for the ordered observation level and reporting any changes in condition to the assigned nurse; recording appropriate information in the patient’s chart.
• Actively participating in unit milieu program by facilitating/co‑facilitating patient groups and assisting patients in structured activities (recreational and/or educational).
• Maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff and being knowledgeable about policies & procedures regarding medical emergencies, fire plan, disaster plans, and non‑medical emergencies.

• BS or BA degree in psychology, social work or related field with one year inpatient experience in mental health OR
• Three (3) years experience in mental health care/social service may be substituted for or considered in lieu of degree.
• Skilled in effective verbal and written communications, interviewing, and counseling.
