Your Role at KIK
KIK’s Employment and Litigation Support Counsel serves as the strategic legal advisor to the Human Resources team and implements the cost‑effective resolution of labor and employment claims and grievances as well as general and products liability claims. The lawyer will provide practical guidance on employment legal matters to a multi‑location manufacturing, sales, and distribution operation located in the US and Canada, Europe, South Africa, and ANZAC.
The lawyer also will drive the timely resolution of claims, implementing handling procedures and developing lessons learned to improve the company’s claims experience. This position will be a remote role with target locations in CA, FL and IL and reports to the Chief Legal Officer.
What You’ll Do
Advise on all aspects of labor and employment law, including employee relations, leave management, employee performance management including terminations of employment, restructuring, cross‑border employment, and wage and hour issues.
Manage labor and employment claims and grievances as well as general and products liability claims by conducting initial assessments, identifying and managing local counsel, and actively driving disputes to rapid and cost‑effective resolutions.
Conduct, or provide legal input and support for, employment‑related internal investigations and prepare responses to EEOC or other federal or state agency charges or requests for information.
Monitor federal, state, and local legislation, case law, and government enforcement activity relating to labor and employment issues and provide proactive, strategic advice to Human Resources and other internal stakeholders.
With Human Resources, develop and revise company policies, procedures, and employment‑related agreements to ensure compliance with labor and employment laws and promote employee engagement and satisfaction.
Partner with Human Resources to conduct regular reviews of company practices to identify opportunities to improve and develop proactive strategies to mitigate risks.
Provide training to Human Resources and management on labor and employment law topics and regulations, including harassment prevention, leave management, and labor relations.
Track, analyze, and report on employment and other claims, and partner with other personnel such as Human Resources, Finance, Quality, or Internal Audit to conduct audits to identify trends and support continuous improvement.
QualificationsWhat You’ll Bring
3+ years of employment law experience with proven employment‑related litigation and other litigation management experience.
In‑depth knowledge of U.S. labor and employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, and state‑specific regulations.
Ability to analyze complex federal, state, and local employment laws, and apply findings to provide practical, effective counsel.
Ability to collaborate effectively across business functions and at various levels of the organization.
Ability to explain complex legal concepts to non‑legal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Flexibility for up to 20% business‑related travel.
In‑house experience with a midsize manufacturing company is preferred.
