Volunteer Opportunities at Georgia Gwinnett College

The Georgia Gwinnett College Office of Student Life Student Outreach and Service is dedicated to promoting a supportive, creative learning environment by developing the campus community through high-quality, student-centered programs and services. The Office of Student Life Student Outreach and Service is seeking enthusiastic students to help expand volunteer opportunities for GGC students, faculty, and staff. Volunteers will also support the Care Center, collaborate with community-based organizations, and assist individuals in need, with a particular focus on addressing food, clothing, and hygiene item insecurity.

Responsibilities include interacting professionally with students, staff, and external visitors both in person and via phone or email. Sort and count donated items for accurate entry into the inventory management system. Pack and prepare food orders for distribution. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pantry space. Collect donations from designated drop-off bins across campus. Supervise and support volunteers with task assignments and guidance.

Promote Care Pantry services at campus resource fairs and tabling events. Weigh, scan, and log donated items into the inventory system using barcodes. Design promotional flyers and social media content using Canva. Label food items with expiration dates to ensure proper inventory rotation. Document and record itemized donation lists on receipts for donor acknowledgment. Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends).

Required qualifications include having a Federal Work Study award, being enrolled a minimum of 6 credits at Georgia Gwinnett College, and maintaining good academic and conduct standing for the duration of employment. Proficiency on Windows based PC's and skilled in Microsoft Office, good customer services skills with excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills, accuracy and attention to details, willingness to learn new skills to accomplish tasks, ability to work as a member of a team, and strong language and communication skills (written and oral).

Preferred qualifications include being enrolled in 12 credit hours, volunteer and service learning experience, ability to work well independently and on a team, and data collection and computer program proficiency.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include community service, volunteerism, service learning, sustainable development goals, ability to build relationships with community partners, clients, interpersonal, critical-thinking, written and oral communication skills, data collection and management.
