This job is afull time, benefited, FLSA non-exemptposition in the Education Division that reports to the Coordinator of Science Labs. This will position will report to the Lawrenceville campus with occasional time spent at the Alpharetta North
-Fulton Location

Schedule: Monday – Thursday 8am
-5pm;
Friday 8am – 4pm

Minimum Qualifications: (Job Code 32701)
Associate Degree in Science or Bioscience. Applicant must have taken degree-level microbiology, biochemistry, as well as sequences of both inorganic and organic chemistry. Applicant must have experience with basic lab techniques used in biology, chemistry, and microbiology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In addition to the minimum qualifications, experience in maintaining and organizing science laboratories.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing and working with various media, bacterial cultures, as well as electrophoresis gels.
  • Experience in preparing chemical reagents and knowledge regarding proper chemical storage.
  • Familiar with laboratory disposal procedures including hazardous biological waste and chemical waste requirements.
  • Experience with sample management and storage requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide teaching assistance to students in laboratory settings.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in written and oral communication.
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to use common software programs.
  • Familiarity with Chematix software a plus.



Job Description

Summary:

Maintains chemistry, biology, microbiology and prepares all solutions and media required. Maintains chemical kits and reagent inventories to support laboratory classes. Maintains water systems in the labs. Maintains log books for all lab equipment. Requests and maintains supplies in all labs. Assists in teaching labs when necessary, assists in setup and breakdown of lab exams when needed. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.

Attends staff development training and workshops.

Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior. (Performed by all incumbents)

Duties/Responsibilities:

Percentage of Time:

Maintains safety standards in all science labs.

  • Works with EHS Coordinator to ensure adherence to OSHA safety requirements in labs.
  • Assists with safety training of students and faculty in science labs.
  • Responsible for organization and proper storage of all chemicals in biology labs.
  • Maintains necessary safety documentation in the lab.

Maintains equipment and supplies in life science labs

  • Responsible for ordering and inventory of supplies for life science labs.
  • Responsible for organization and proper storage of all chemicals in labs.
  • Responsible for organization and storage of all supplies in labs.

30%

Prepares media, cultures, and reagents for basic science

  • Pours all plates, tubes, and gels required for labs.
  • Prepares all reagents required for labs.
  • Maintains all bacterial cultures for labs.

Responsible for the set-up / clean-up of science labs.

  • Set-up of all equipment and supplies required for labs.
  • Responsible for autoclaving and proper disposal of all biological waste.
