About The Role
The Field Service Technician reports to the Project Manager s position plays a key role in completing service orders, which may include delivering notices, finding meters, reading meters and miscellaneous tasks necessary for the utility billing department. This position requires a high degree of driving, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day.
Salary Transparency:
Pay for this position is at $17/hour.
Location:
Must live within 20 miles of Lawrenceville.
What You’ll Do
- Meter maintenance:
Remove inactive meters, locating curb valves, discontinue services, and conduct safety inspections including detection of gas leaks or theft investigations - Complete assigned duties in the required time frame for cycle readings
- Assign sequence numbers to new services
- Rearrange meter reading routes as necessary
- Read meters on a daily and/or special basis, typically on a customer’s premises for service bills
- Evaluate unsafe conditions; may need to clean out meter boxes
- Use electric, gas, water meter reading devices
- Use printed materials such as service orders, maps, manuals, and computer printouts
- Read meters in various environmental conditions
- Extensively walk and stand for much of the workday
- Walk for long distances (occasionally up to 20 miles per day) in various weather conditions
- Exert physical force moving objects (routinely 10 lbs, up to an occasional 50 lbs)
- Customer communication:
Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities - May provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable
- Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate

About You
Must haves
- Education:
None. Must be 18 years of age or older - Experience:
No experience necessary. Employees will be trained. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Nice to haves
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED - Experience:
Experience in meter reading or working in outdoor conditions; 1 year of continuous work with the same employer, and/or 6 or more months working outdoors

- Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team
- Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling
- Adequate time management skills to finish daily meter maintenance
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers
- Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner
- Excellent attention to detail for problem solving
- Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions accordingly
